3rd Annual Labor History Dinner
The Third Annual Celebration of Labor History in Champaign County will be hosted by Representative Ammons and the Laborers Local 703. The dinner will take place on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 5:30pm (dinner is served), 6pm (program begins) at Laborers Local 703, located at 108 East Anthony Drive in Urbana.
At the dinner, we will recount the history of our local labor union and how it fits into the larger narrative of the labor movement nationwide. We invite all workers and their families to join us in celebrating our history of labor unions and to renew our commitment to building a strong Illinois for working people.
Joining us as our Guest Speaker will be Labor Committee Chairman, State Rep. Jay Hoffman. Rep. Hoffman is a resident of Swansea, Illinois, and was elected to his first term as an Illinois State Representative in November of 1990. He is a former prosecutor, law enforcement official, state legislator, small businessman and public policy advocate. Rep. Hoffman worked with business and labor, as the chief negotiator, to address various issues with unemployment insurance. He is an Assistant Majority Leader in the House and serves as the Chairman of the Labor & Commerce Committee, as well as, the Public Utilities, Judicial I (Civil Law), appropriations committees and several other committees and task forces.
